Are you new to the world of cannabis? If so, the various “stoner-culture” holidays might be difficult to keep up with. As the legalization of recreational use continues, these cannabis “holidays” have been growing in popularity. Here is the inside scoop, so you can celebrate and indulge on these special days with your fellow potheads. Curious about these weed holidays and their origins? Keep reading!
A Brief History of 4/20:
4/20 is the most celebrated weed holiday across the US. It all started as a tradition among high school students in Marin County, California. A small group of friends would meet at 4:20 pm, every afternoon in search of cannabis crops in the area. Not long after, the term “420” took flight. It was used by popular musical groups and featured in cannabis publications like High Times magazine.
Despite 420’s celebratory nature, it is important to recognize its political implications as marijuana has a complicated history in the United States. Although its medicinal use is more popular than ever before, it is still heavily criminalized in many states across the country – as recreational use is only legal in 24 out of 50 states. That said, we continue the fight for decriminalization in hopes of shedding light on the benefits and shifting the narrative in a more positive direction.
7/10 or “OIL” Day:
July 10th otherwise known as “Dab Day” is a day to celebrate oils, dabs and other forms of cannabis extracts. Since oils and extracts tend to be more potent than other cannabis products, this holiday is more popular among experienced cannabis users. That said, if your preferred method of consumption involves vape concentrates, kief, oils, etc. – this holiday if for you!
Unlike 420, the origin of “Dab Day” is unknown. However, its popularity continues to grow with the industry. So, make sure you drop by your local dispensary on 7/10 for deals on all things cannabis concentrates & oils!
Green Wednesday:
Have you heard of Green Wednesday? The Wednesday before Thanksgiving has quickly become one of the most celebrated weed holidays aside from 420. Although its origin is relatively unknown, this day has quickly become one of the busiest days of the year for cannabis dispensaries across the United States.
Whether you’re looking for an appetite enhancer or looking for a way to cope with uncomfortable family dynamics – this holiday is for you! Think of it as cannabis's own Black Friday. But luckily for you – we offer specials EVERY Monday-Thursday regardless of the holiday season.
National CBD Day – 8/8:
August 8th is national CBD day! CBD is one of many active compounds in cannabis. It is responsible for the non-psychoactive benefits of the plant. That said, it offers a more calming & pain-relieving effect as opposed to THC which offers a more intoxicating effect. Following the legalization of all CBD/hemp products in 2018, CBD has been an incredibly popular tool for managing pain, reliving inflammation and reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression.
National CBD day was coined in 2019 not long after its legalization. It did not take long before it stirred up some interest– enough to reach major publications, like Forbes, and cannabis news sites across the nation.
That said, if you prefer the calming and anti-inflammatory effects as opposed to the feeling of getting “high” - then this holiday is for you!
